Bocote (Mexican Rosewood) is dark green brown timber with a white sapwood. Easily turned to a very fine finish. -
Pink ivory wood dries slowly and doesn't split easily due to its high oil content. Its attractive colouring makes it ideal for carving, turning, inlay work and even musical instruments. -
The heartwood is light and dark chocolate brown. At 1010kg's/m3 the wood is hard, heavy, durable, close-grained and resistant to termites. When freshly worked it has a distinctive, sweetish smell.It sands and finishes well to a satin lustre. It is used in musical instruments, turning and carving. -
Cocobolo has a high mechanical strength in all categories, and is heavy, tough and strong. It works reasonably well with hand tools, but cutting edges must be kept sharp. -
Mopane is a very heavy, dense timber. Dark red/brown in colour generally streaked with black. Narrow straw coloured sapwood. Turns well with care and polishes to a lustrous finish. -

A red/brown timber veined with darker red stripes. The wood is dense, with a straight to sometimes interlocking grain which when turned has a fine even texture and polishes to a high finish. -
When freshly cut the wood is bright orange red, becomes reddish brown. Moderately hard and heavy. Medium texture, but with large pores. -

Purpleheart has a creamy white/gray sapwood but like its name suggests, the heartwood is a bright, striking purple when freshly cut, darkening into a deeper purple with age. It has a medium to fine texture with a lustre that ranges from medium to high; its grain is usually straight but can be wavy or irregular. Purpleheart has high bending and crushing strength and stiffness with medium resistance to shock loads. -

Heartwood is a vivid red when freshly cut, toning down to a medium to dark purple-brown on exposure, often with fine black lines. Sapwood is wide and greyish-white. Straight to interlocked grain with course texture. Finishes very well, tends to be dusty. -
Weight: 1100Kg/m3.One of the first and finest ebonies in common use and probably overused in the past. This stock is taken from new growth logs and is therefore subject to stringent export regulation that, along with the small log sizes somewhat limits the range of sizes that can be offered. -
Only the heartwood of cocobolo is used; it is usually orange or reddish-brown, often with darker irregular traces weaving through the wood. The heartwood changes colour after being cut, and can be polished to a lustrous, glassy finish; being quite dense, sometimes having a specific gravity of over 1.0, it will sink in water. The sapwood (not often used) is a creamy yellow, with a sharp boundary between it and the heartwood. -

Bocote is a wood that resembles rosewood and hence it is often called Mexican rosewood. It is found throughout much of South America and Mexico. It is used for turning, inlays, furniture, tool handles, cabinetry, decking and veneers. -

The wood has good wearing properties and resistance to abrasion because of its interlocked grain and twisty nature. Olive does polish to an excellent finish. -
Zebrano is a hard, dense and heavy wood with high strength properties and very high stiffness. It works well with hand tools and in most machining operations. Planing can be tricky, since interlocked grain can tear badly, so sanding is advised for a final finish. Gluing is satisfactory if care is taken. -

The light red-brown timber has a good figure oxidizing to a warm darker colour shortly after conversion, age improves appearance. Weight 770kg's/Ms with SG at 12% it is hard but sands and works well and takes a fine polish. An easy timber to turn although tools need to be sharp.
