Out of stockA red/brown timber veined with darker red stripes. The wood is dense, with a straight to sometimes interlocking grain which when turned has a fine even texture and polishes to a high finish.

Only the heartwood of cocobolo is used; it is usually orange or reddish-brown, often with darker irregular traces weaving through the wood. The heartwood changes colour after being cut, and can be polished to a lustrous, glassy finish; being quite dense, sometimes having a specific gravity of over 1.0, it will sink in water. The sapwood (not often used) is a creamy yellow, with a sharp boundary between it and the heartwood.

Panga Panga is extraordinary in its rarity as it is only found, in commercially viable quantities, inMozambique. Its dark colours, with rich parenchyma bands brings a touch of the exotic to finished pieces. The heartwood is dark chocolate brown with paler broad bands. At 880kg/m3 the heartwood is extremely durable. It sands and finishes well.
