Laguna 18|36 REVO Lathe is designed for the user. Strength, stability and control are at the heart throughout to satisfy true specialists and woodturning professionals. One of the striking features of the lathe is an ergonomic panel with controls mounted in an anodized aluminium plate. The speed is smoothly controlled with a tactile rubber augmented knurled aluminium dial. Add the blue hue of the speed indicator and this machine stands out from the competition. The solid bed, with an impressive width of 208mm, is made of high-quality steel ASTM A36 (tougher than cast iron), and is precisely ground providing smooth travel of the headstock, tailstock and toolrest. The spindle is run by a highly efficient induction motor with a VFD frequency convertor for high torque even at lower speeds. The speed range can be changed with a clever one-lever mechanism. The headstock, tailstock and legs of the lathe are made from cast-iron securing minimum vibration and high comfort for turning of oversized pieces. Tailstock and Headstock cam lock levers are placed on the back of the machine and will not get in the way. All cam lock levers have soft grip handles and a long length resulting in a firm feel with no deflection. Innovation has been key to the progress of the Laguna brand and it is fully embraced here in the REVO 12/16 Midi Lathe. To overcome the issues of a traditional DC motor (Low torque at low speed and inability to achieve very low speeds) the controller uses the revolutionary Pulse Width Modulation system which feeds a succession of voltage pulses to the motor, monitoring the speed and automatically making adjustments to keep the speed constant. The result is a fantastic level of torque even at the incredibly low speed of 50rpm. The controls are mounted in an anodized aluminium plate, the ergonomic design is well positioned with a clear digital speed read out and easy access to all controls. The variable speed is smoothly controlled with a tactile rubber augmented knurled aluminium dial - A joy to use. One of the most distinctive advantages of the Laguna bandsaw range over all other brands is the famous ceramic blade guide system. They create 10 points of contact on the blade allowing easy set up and highly accurate cuts even when re-sawing deep timber. Using long life ceramic guides allows for a much larger blade contact area than traditional bearing guides. The result is more support for the blade and greater cutting accuracy. The braked motor provides enough power to operate at the full 13” cutting depth. There is a quick blade release tension lever that makes blade changing faster and this is complimented with an easy to view blade tension scale indicator to easily ensure correct tension set up. The micro polished cast iron table is mounted onto an oversized double cast iron trunnion with two locking points that ensure there is a solid surface to work from. The table tilts to 45 degrees with a positive Stop at 90°. A flip plate allows reverse tilt up to 7 degrees when required. In the centre of the table is an anodised aluminium throat plate with 4 adjusting screws to ensure a perfect flush fit. The parallel fence runs smoothly along a polished solid steel bar. The locking screw is fitted with a brass end to ensure a positive lock which will not let you down and creep during repeat work. The measuring scale is marked in both Inches and MM. The rigid aluminium high/low fence ensures full and precise timber support for both large and small work pieces. Solid cast iron wheels are electronically / dynamically balanced & fitted with polyurethane one-piece tyres designed to run cooler & last longer than conventional tyres. The worm gear & pinion on the blade guard is ultra-smooth and engineered to have minimum flex even when fully extended. Double windows allow you to check both tension & tracking while the machine is running. There is a premium anodized aluminium throat plate with fine adjustment for ultimate accuracy. Efficient dust extraction is achieved through a 100mm (4") diameter outlet located just underneath the table. A deflector sends the dust into the collection port before it comes into contact the lower wheel and other moving parts - extending their lifespan.
