The midi sized lathe continues to be Charnwoods' best seller. It is a size which can accomplish most of the projects turners are likely to try and is the largest lathe which can comfortably be moved off the bench when not in use. We have developed ours further this year to now include an indexing system on the headstock spindle as well as more robust electronics, specifically designed for UK voltage. The bed of the lathe is one-piece precision ground cast iron giving 14" between centres when working with our new heavy duty centres, which are supplied as standard. The bowl turning capacity of 12" diameter over the bed, requires a very low speed which is achieved using a converter and a DC motor. A clear LCD display shows the current RPM. The tool rest banjo is a cam-lock design for rapid adjustments with all metal components. The tool rest itself is our ever popular round bar made from hardened steel The headstock is hollow centred to allow for easy tool removal, the tailstock is also hollow and has automatic centre removal. Supplied with drive and tail centres 2MT, knockout bar, 6" toolrest with 5/8" shank, 3" diameter faceplate, tool holder, carrying handles and cable tidy. N.B. When it is critical to drill a hole at a certain angle or the hole needs to be stopped at a specific depth, there really is no substitute for a dedicated drilling machine. By setting up the work piece and clamping it to the table all guesswork is eliminated and accurate and repeat drilling becomes simple and easy. Record Power have long had a reputation for fine drilling machines and our current range is no exception. Making extensive use of steel and cast iron and driven by a powerful induction motor, the DP58P can be expected to give reliable service for many years. The headstock in particular is made from a large casting to give rigidity and absorb vibration. The large, heavy table is fitted with rack and pinion rise and fall. The machine has 12 speeds, making it suitable for drilling metal as well as wood. This is particularly useful as most woodworkers have the occasional need to drill metal for hinges, brackets and plating etc. and it can be very frustrating to have the right machine for the job but not the right speeds. Record Power have a high reputation for quality drilling machines and we believe that when this machine is compared to others in the market at similar (or greater) prices the value for money it represents will be quickly appreciated.

  • Tubular leg stand for the Coronet Herald.
    • The design of the 6-prong drive centres offers an enhanced grip to timber using the principle of opposing tooth profiles. The central point of the tool secures the drive centre in place, the six teeth around it grip the timber securely and the opposing tooth pattern ensures the wood fibres are pulled together to reduce the chance of splitting. Having two more teeth than the traditional 4-prong drive centres, they are ideal for use on hardwoods and larger pieces of wood.
The grip is spread across 6 prongs, it is possible to grip the timber sufficiently just by using the clamping pressure of the lathe tailstock - no need to drive the tips into the wood with a mallet. Another benefit of this design is that your work can be removed from the lathe and accurately repositioned, using the centre point and ting of teeth as an accurate guide. These drives also give a fantastic grip to paper-joint wood blanks, as the ring of teeth grip on many points across the drive’s circumference across both sections of wood on either side of the joint. The 32 mm diameter drive centre is ideal for holding side-grain bowl blanks. It is also suitable for holding natural-edged bowls between centres, particularly if seated inside a 32 mm diameter recess, for extra support from the recess walls. The 16 and 22 mm drive centres are ideal for holding spindle work.
  • These jaws are perfect for drilling pen blanks, eliminating the need for a drill press and offering much more accurate results because the deep grip to all four sides ensures excellent holding power. Drilling on the lathe means the feed speed of the drill bit is under complete control, so a superior finish can be achieved on a wide range of materials. These jaws are also useful for working on small finials and similar projects, as in addition to their strong grip, the work piece is moved forward from the chuck to allow greater access.   SC1 Contraction Spigot: 14 - 20 mm Contraction Square: 14 - 24.5 mm SC2 Contraction Spigot: 14 - 20 mm Contraction Square: 14 - 26 mm
  • These jaws are able to hold the smallest work pieces. The convex internal radius on each jaw is designed to avoid damage to small and fragile work. It allows the user to get very close to support thin work as safely as possible. It also allows good access to work close to the base of a work piece without the tool fouling on the jaws. For maximum support always ensure the workpiece features a spigot long enough to be supported along the full length of the jaws’ internal surface.   SC1 Contraction Spigot: 4 - 11.5 mm Contraction Square: 4 - 11.5 mm SC2 Contraction Spigot: 4 - 25.5 mm Contraction Square: 4 - 25.5 mm
  • Another of the most popular jaws for full size chucks – these are also ideal for smaller chuck projects too. We have set the range of these bodies to be compatible with most tea light holder designs (on either body) as well as many salt or pepper pot designs and these offer an excellent expansion grip for many projects. The end of the jaw
is dovetailed so can be used on its own as a delicate grip – or the jaw can be inserted full length using the back jaw face as a register and providing wall support to prevent the workpiece being knocked from a dovetail only grip. The dovetail at the end provides additional security in expansion mode.
    SC1 Expansion: 39 - 47.5 mm Contraction Spigot: 6 - 14.5 mm Contraction Square: 4.5 - 12 mm SC2 Expansion: 39.5 - 60 mm Contraction Spigot: 6 - 26 mm Contraction Square: 4.5 - 25 mm
  • This faceplate ring is ideal for holding small to medium sized bowl blanks and due to its strong hold is also suitable for more out of balance timber. It is held to the chuck using the standard 40 mm jaw set which comes with both the SC1 and SC2 Mini Chucks. Diameter: 68 mm
