The new DML320 lathe offers fantastic value for money, being compact and powerful yet with very generous capacities for a medium sized lathe, giving woodturners the chance to own a high quality variable speed machine at an unbeatable price. The solid cast iron bed, tailstock and headstock offer superb stability, even when turning items at the limits of the lathe’s considerable capacities. At the heart of this machine is the high quality electronic variable speed function, giving smooth and responsive speed change at the turn of a dial, with a highly accurate digital speed readout. The 3 pulley system ensures excellent torque across the full range of speeds and is powered by a high quality and vibration-free motor. The DML320 is also capable of reverse turning, ideal for achieving a perfect finish
when sanding.
  • The DML305 cast iron lathe represents a new benchmark in high quality midi lathes and is perfect for the user with minimal space or as a second lathe for demonstrations and shows. The bed is made from finely ground cast iron for weight and rigidity and fitted with cam locking tool rests that clamp easily and solidly to the bed with one handed operation. The machine has 393 mm between centres as standard and an optional bed extension can be added to increase this capacity.

The swing over the bed is 305 mm and the motor is 1/2 hp, providing plenty of power for the capacities of these machines. The spindle has an M33 thread to ensure a wide range of Record Power accessories can be fitted.

This lathe is extremely well finished with polished metal handles, spindle locks with indexing and graduated markings on the tailstock barrels. Many of these features are normally only found on expensive professional lathes.

  • The DML250 is a compact and extremely well built machine that offers excellent performance and exceptional value for money. The finely ground cast iron bed, along with the cast iron headstock, tailstock and tool rest, greatly reduce vibration and provide ample strength for the lathe to cope with heavy duty work. The capacities of this machine and its overall size make it a perfect choice for the smaller workshop. It is also ideal as a second lathe for regular use on small work and its portability means it can be used at demonstrations and shows.
  • This brand new lathe from Record Power represents the culmination of many decades of expertise in the manufacture and supply of superior woodturning lathes. Developed with the help of professional woodturners and keen hobbyists, Record believe they have produced a world-class machine for woodturners of all levels. Thanks to a number of innovative design solutions the capabilities, features and performance of the Herald far exceed anything a machine of this size has been capable of before - It brings top-end professional performance at a fraction of the size and cost of comparable heavy-duty machines.
To reflect the Record Power heritage in a modern context, the look of the lathe incorporates the elegant and balanced curves of the earlier Coronet series in a more streamlined and efficient form. As well as looking great, the Herald feels great - the excellence of engineering, ergonomics and quality manufacturing can be felt throughout, making the lathe a pleasure to use whilst delivering rock solid performance.

The midi sized lathe continues to be Charnwoods' best seller. It is a size which can accomplish most of the projects turners are likely to try and is the largest lathe which can comfortably be moved off the bench when not in use. We have developed ours further this year to now include an indexing system on the headstock spindle as well as more robust electronics, specifically designed for UK voltage. The bed of the lathe is one-piece precision ground cast iron giving 14" between centres when working with our new heavy duty centres, which are supplied as standard. The bowl turning capacity of 12" diameter over the bed, requires a very low speed which is achieved using a converter and a DC motor. A clear LCD display shows the current RPM. The tool rest banjo is a cam-lock design for rapid adjustments with all metal components. The tool rest itself is our ever popular round bar made from hardened steel The headstock is hollow centred to allow for easy tool removal, the tailstock is also hollow and has automatic centre removal. Supplied with drive and tail centres 2MT, knockout bar, 6" toolrest with 5/8" shank, 3" diameter faceplate, tool holder, carrying handles and cable tidy. N.B. The distance between centres will vary and be dependent on the type of centres or accessories used. Maximum distance is 450mm (18").
  • The ideal way to experiment with the different colours available to decide which ones you prefer, the Spirit Stain Kit contains one bottle (min. contents 25ml) of each of the twelve wood colours. For anyone turning salt and pepper mills using a CrushGrind mechanism, this is an essential tool in obtaining the correct depth and size of recesses needed to enable the mechanism to work correctly. The step or shoulder of the tool gives an accurate position of the recess required for the base section of the mill. The small V notch on the right hand side allows the other groove to be produced in the top section when it is lined up with the outer face. The CrushGrind tool will give accurate and effortless results time and again.
  • This robust material is designed to handle the demands of all steels. Not strictly ‘grit sizes’ these belts are built using brick and pyramid abrasive shaping. The highest 3000 ‘grit’ size will sharpen to two microns (the same sharpness as a disposable razor blade) and provide a factory finish on all steels.
  • This hardwearing material is a great choice for profiling and re-profiling damaged tools. The heavier 60 grit option is an efficient choice for removing plenty of material, while the finer 120 grit will provide a satisfying finish. Great longevity and highly practical.
  • Zebrano

    £9.00
Zebrano is a hard, dense and heavy wood with high strength properties and very high stiffness. It works well with hand tools and in most machining operations. Planing can be tricky, since interlocked grain can tear badly, so sanding is advised for a final finish. Gluing is satisfactory if care is taken.
  • Out of stock
The wood has good wearing properties and resistance to abrasion because of its interlocked grain and twisty nature. Olive does polish to an excellent finish.
  • Bocote

    £9.00
Bocote is a wood that resembles rosewood and hence it is often called Mexican rosewood. It is found throughout much of  South America and Mexico. It is used for turning, inlays, furniture, tool handles, cabinetry, decking and veneers.
  • Roupala Lacewood is light pink to silvery sheen with small flaky grain due to the large rays. Attractive pattern when used in small areas. Fairly light in weight, works well with hand tools. Central and South America.
  • Cocobolo

    £14.00

  • Pink Ivory

    £14.00
Pink ivory wood dries slowly and doesn't split easily due to its high oil content. Its attractive colouring makes it ideal for carving, turning, inlay work and even musical instruments.
  • Padauk

It has a medium to fine texture with a lustre that ranges from medium to high; its grain is usually straight but can be wavy or irregular. Purpleheart has high bending and crushing strength and stiffness with medium resistance to shock loads.
  • These beautiful  micaceous-based colours are for artists and crafters who wish to add a touch of  glamour or glitter to a piece, such as the translucent glow of an  angel's wings, a butterfly, a fish or the brilliant iridescent shimmer  on a mallard drake's neck. • These unstitched, cotton mops are ideal for polishing the insides of bowls and boxes etc to achieve the same great finish on the inside as on the outside when using the Buffing Wheel kit, without the fear of the item being snatched from your hands by the larger Buffing Wheels. All of the domes share the same thread as in the large mandrel and the small mandrel so all parts are completely interchangeable. Due to the smaller size of these dome buffs they will require more time and sometimes more speed on the lathe to be able to match the finish given by the larger wheels. Dome Buff A is used with compound 1 to cut back the applied finish and remove any minor blemishes left behind by sanding. Dome Buff B is used with Compound 2 to cleanse the piece and also to prepare for the final polish coat by giving an exceptionally smooth surface. Dome Buff C is used with either the Carnauba wax stick, microcrystalline wax or Microcrystalline Wax Stick to give a wonderful, long lasting shine.
  • The Buffing Tree comprises of three 6 inch wheels, in the A, B and C cloth grades, firmly held on a central spindle. Ideal for polishing small items such as fruit, pens, boxes etc in batches. Requires one of our mandrels to fix to the chuck and a live centre for support at the tailstock. PLEASE NOTE: The Buffing Tree does not come as kit containing the mandrels and compounds etc; this is deliberate as if you already use the Buffing System you will have these and won’t want to buy them again. If you do not have these items they are available to purchase separately or as a pack in the Buffing Accessory Pack.
  • All the items you need to use our Buffing System except the wheels – the perfect add-on when buying the Buffing Tree, the 8 inch wheels or the 4 inch wheels or the Dome Buffs The kit comprises of the Large Mandrel, the Small Mandrel, Compound 1, Compound 2, Carnauba Wax Stick. ALL OF THESE ITEMS ARE INCLUDED IN THE BUFFING WHEEL KIT.
  • Cut’n’Polish is a blend of two waxes with a fine abrasive held in suspension within them. This is a soft wax designed to stay ‘wet’ slightly longer during application, allowing it to lubricate the abrasive to give a very fine cut to the timber and also to collect any dust generated during use and some subsequent sanding, preventing it from entering the workshop atmosphere. On bare wood; sand to 240 grit as normal, apply a coat of Cut’n’Polish with the lathe stopped, then switch on the lathe and buff to a soft sheen whilst smoothing the timber at the same time. On sealed wood apply after the sealer in the same way, polishing to a slightly higher shine. Cut’n’Polish dries almost immediately and can be overcoated with Friction Polish or any Chestnut waxes for a higher shine.
  • Chestnut Nywebs

    £1.91£16.83
NyWeb pads are a non-woven nylon webbing with an abrasive – either silicon carbide or aluminium oxide –  embedded into them to give an exactly defined cut.
    • The Green pads are 400 grit
    • The Red pads are 600 grit
    • The Orange pads are 1000 grit
    • The White pads do not contain an abrasive and are thus technically non-abrasive, but the very texture of the pads gives them an incredibly fine – but immeasurable – cut.
NyWeb is long lasting and economical in use and extremely flexible, able to be moulded to pretty much any shape to get into all those awkward spaces and to not remove any sharp features. In use, as the web wears away, fresh abrasive is exposed to ensure a sharp cut every time. When NyWeb becomes clogged with dust simply beat it against a suitable surface or use a vacuum cleaner to remove the dust. NyWeb can be used wet or dry, and the Orange and White are particularly useful for the application of waxes, ensuring a smooth, even coat. Each pad is approx 15 x 21cm.
  • This is the same wax Chestnut use in the tinned version of Microcrystalline Wax but in a solid block form with no solvent. This means there’s no waiting around for it to dry before buffing it. Like the original version, this wax should be used very sparingly, a little goes a very long way and once applied it might even be necessary to spread it thinner using Safety Cloth (the texture of this makes it ideal for this purpose). The Microcrystalline Wax Stick is also perfect for use on the Buffing Wheel System, use it on Wheel C to buff up to a brilliant, hard wearing finish.
